A New Course From Lisa Pedersen, DC

Building the Brain

The First Year — a neurodevelopmental guide for mothers, birth to twelve months.

More is happening inside your baby than you can see. In twenty-three years of clinical practice, I have watched thousands of families move through the first year without anyone ever explaining to them the important details of the development of the brain and the nervous system that drives all of the incredible changes that happen during the first year of life. And what an important role parents have in this development! That is what I want to do with this course. Go through all of it, reflex by reflex, milestone by milestone, month by month. This course is the guided tour I wish every mother had from day one.

Why This Course

You do not need more advice. You need a map.

Right now you can find a hundred opinions about sleep, a hundred opinions about milestones, and a hundred opinions about what is "normal." What you cannot easily find is the thing underneath all of it — the neurology. The brain and nervous system your baby is building, in a specific, sequenced order, from the moment they are born. When you can see that sequence, the guessing stops. You know exactly what you should and should not be seeing your baby do and how to support each phase of development at home.

01

Neuroscience

Brain-based, nervous-system-informed information, translated into plain language.

02

Holistic Health

Sleep, nutrition, movement, and your own regulation, treated as one integrated system.

03

Real-Life Execution

Not theory. What to actually watch for and do, at 2 a.m. and every hour in between.

04

23 Years in Practice

Built from two decades of clinical work with babies, children, and the mothers who love them.

Inside The Course

Four phases. One full year, mapped.

Your baby's first year unfolds in four distinct neurological seasons. Each phase of Building the Brain walks you through what is happening in your baby's neurodevelopment, what you should be seeing, and exactly what to do to support it.

Sleeping newborn, 0 to 3 months
Phase One · 0–3 Months

The Foundation Being Built

The most intense brain-building window of the entire first year. The brainstem is doing its earliest organizing work, the nervous system is learning to regulate, and the primitive reflexes are doing quiet, essential work. You will learn what is happening beneath the surface in these early weeks — and exactly what to do to support the foundation everything else will be built on.

Phase Two · 3–6 Months

The Brain Becomes Intentional

The cortex begins taking over from the brainstem. Reflexive movement gives way to intention. Your baby starts reaching, rolling, and truly engaging with the world — while the wiring for attachment and language deepens underneath it all. You will learn what this intentionality looks like and exactly how to support it at home.

Joyful baby being held up outdoors, 6 to 9 months
Phase Three · 6–9 Months

Mobility, Memory, and Connection

One of the most active seasons of the first year. Sitting steadies. Crawling begins. Object permanence arrives. Attachment moves from theory into behavior, and babbling becomes the scaffolding for real language. You will learn how to recognize — and support — every piece of it.

Baby exploring a flower outdoors, 9 to 12 months
Phase Four · 9–12 Months

Communicating, Deciding and Participating

The completion of the first year of brain-building. The days are spent being mostly upright and able to move around in their world as they please, understanding races ahead of speech, and your baby begins sharing the world with you on purpose — pointing, looking back to check, remembering. You will close the year understanding exactly what you watched happen, and why.

Your Guide

Hi, I'm Dr. Lisa.

I am a Doctor of Chiropractic, a mother of two, and the host of the Create Thriving Families podcast. I have spent more than twenty-three years in private practice working primarily with women, babies, and children — and after thousands of families, one thing has become clear to me: mothers are not lacking love, effort, or instinct. They are lacking a map.

Building the Brain is the course I have wanted to build for years — a translation of neuroscience, holistic health, and two decades of clinical work into exactly what you need to know, and exactly what to do, in each phase of your baby's first year. My hope is that it gives you what it has given thousands of families in my practice: clarity, confidence, and a model you can trust.

With care,
Dr. Lisa
